Rewound Sounds started in 2004 as "The Riot Room" in a small location by 13th street and the river. As a sideline, the store started with fewer than a hundred albums, many from local bands.
From all of the positive response it quickly became apparent that Wichita was in serious need of a real record shop. Chris and Klaus decided to take a chance, pooled record collections & resources, and started looking for a good location.
We moved into an old medical office building on Hydraulic near Douglas, which we outgrew in a little over a year. Not a great location, the roof leaked, but it was a start.
Our next move was to 117 S Pattie, where we had the store literally jammed with records. Much music, little room to move.
In 2008 we made Delano our permanent home, moving to a cool but crumbling building at 815 W Douglas. The B-Side gallery was located upstairs, site of infamous music and art shows.
Finally in May of 2009 we moved across the street into the old bank building at 810 W Douglas and have settled in for a while.
